While little is known about Cowell’s life, census records indicate he was employed as a copper plate printer as early as 1850.[2] During the 1850’s, Cowell married Julia Keenan and resided in Albany with his wife, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law.[3] Cowell and his wife had four children.
