A Philadelphia native, Beaux studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and in Paris at the Académie Julian and the Académie Colarossi. Back in the United States, Beaux gained recognition for her masterful portraits. In 1895, she became the first woman to hold a full-time faculty position at the Pennsylvania Academy. During her lifetime, Beaux held memberships with the Societe des Beaux-Arts in Paris, American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the National Academy of Design.
